Bexley Speaking Up Group

Who we work with:

Adults (over 18), who live in the London borough of Bexley and have a learning disability

The aims of the groups are to:

• Support people to have a voice

• Help people get their voice heard

• Teach people about their rights

• Build people’s confidence

• Meet new people

• Try new things

• Share experiences and ideas

• Learn new skills

• Work alongside services to make them better

• Prevent loneliness and isolation

What we do:

• Have 2 group nights a month

• Run our own committee

• Organise monthly Saturday socials

• Meet regularly for a Saturday walking group

• Attend council meetings to improve services

• Work on different projects such as Hate Crime and safeguarding

• Help organise and attend big events such as the big Health Day

• Support each other to learn new skills

• Provide 1-1 advocacy for issues such as housing or work
